4th Annual 9/11 Memorial Stairclimb Recap – Mt. Bonnell, Austin TX
Sep 22, 2025
On September 11, 2025, we hosted our 4th Annual 9/11 Memorial Stairclimb at Mt. Bonnell in Austin, Texas.
This event was never about PRs or selling product, it was about showing up, putting in the work, and remembering why we were there in the first place.
Why We Climb
Each year, this workout honors the 2,977 lives lost on September 11, 2001 - including the 343 firefighters who climbed the towers in full gear to save others. To represent the 110 stories of the World Trade Center, participants climbed the 106-step staircase at Mt. Bonnell 22 times, totaling approximately 2,200 steps.
It’s a brutal challenge, especially in the Texas heat. But that’s the point.
We carry the memory through effort, sweat, and shared struggle. That’s how we choose to remember.
The Turnout
Despite the heat and the intensity of the workout, people showed up. Some alone. Some with teams. Some wearing weight vests to simulate the gear the firefighters wore that day. Whether they hit all 22 rounds or not, everyone came with purpose, and that’s what matters most.
The mood was focused but communal. People encouraged each other. Some carried flags. Others moved in silence. It wasn’t a race, and it wasn’t a performance. It was a reminder.
Why This Matters
This stair-climb isn’t just another fitness event in Austin. It’s a memorial workout rooted in service, sacrifice, and accountability. No speeches, no gimmicks, just people putting in work to honor those who gave everything.
Events like this create space for reflection, connection, and discomfort - three things we don’t get enough of.
Looking Ahead
We’re grateful to everyone who showed up, climbed beside us, and helped keep this tradition alive. Whether this was your first time or your fourth, we hope it meant something.
The next event is never far off. But for now, we’re still thinking about the steps we took this week, and the people we took them for.
